Rainbow Caravan
Towed through wind and snow from England, winter 2012, this caravan has been refurbished, glammed up a bit and given a solar panel to charge the battery, which powers the low wattage lighting and, on a sunny day, enough power to charge a phone, tablet etc. using a USB charger
The caravan sleeps 4 with 1 permanent double bed and 1 extra double bed when the sofa/indoor dining table is converted.
It's got it's own deck on the south side overlooking the wild woodland and hills, with table and chairs for up to 4 people to dine outside when the weather permits. We have built a lovely little kitchen on the deck, giving more space inside the caravan
There's a sink, a gas hob and all the equipment and crockery that you need to cater for yourselves, though, of course, if you let us know in advance, you can enjoy breakfast and dinner over at strawbale HQ.
The composting loo with a view and solar/gas shower are shared with the yurt dwellers.
So, if you fancy an off-grid stay in the little blue caravan with a big green view check out the prices.
Asturian Hobbit House
Our brand new attraction: made using cutting edge traditional building techniques. Nestled into the hillside, a cosy and wholesome abode made from straw bale, adobe and rock with a beautiful reciprocal ´living´roof. It will sleep up to 6 people with a permanent double bed and 2 double sofa beds. Come and stay at El Toral and experience living off-grid, in low impact accomodation, while you explore glorious Asturias.
5 metres away, you can relax on the spring deck and listen to cow bells gently chiming. Next to deck there is a simple field kitchen with a twin hob, a sink and all the utensils you need to cook basic meals. Though of course, if you let us know in advance, you can enjoy breakfast and dinner over at strawbale HQ.
The composting toilet and solar/gas shower are shared with the caravan gang.

Cosy Coco Cabana
Cabana's are found all over rural Spain, essentially you'd have the livestock below and the shepherd would live above. Ours was a leaking wreck when we arrived. With the help of friends and volunteers we've gradually renovated the place into something a bit special. We've tried to keep to traditional and sustainable building techniques using, lime based mortar, local stone, our own coppiced Sweet Chestnut and reclaimed clay tiles. The windows and doors have been hand crafted on site, using locally sourced sweet chestnut.
The cabana has a shower room, toilet and small kitchen and can sleep up to 6: upstairs is open plan and has a double bed and a bunk bed; downstairs there is a comfy sofa that converts into a double bed.
As with all the facilities on site the cabana is off grid. The water is supplied by our private spring and all electricity is from solar power: our power supply is not designed to cater for electrical appliances with heating elements such as hair dryers, toaster, kettle, etc.
If you want a break from all that tiresome self catering, have a look at our breakfast and dinner sample menus.
